  • The first International FASD Awareness Day was held in Auckland on September 9, 1999, at 9:09am.

  • The Fetal Alcohol Network New Zealand (FANNZ) will be holding a breakfast event on September 9, 2008.

  • A recent study of the experiences of birth mothers in New Zealand found that providers across all systems of care need to be educated about FASD, in order for individuals with an FASD to "live full and meaningful lives and have the quality of like they deserve" (Salmon 2008).
