Types of Alcohol That Can Cause Damage
No form of alcohol is safe for a fetus. Any alcohol, including beer, wine, hard liquor, and wine coolers, can be harmful. A 12-ounce beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, and 1.5 ounces of liquor all contain the same amount of alcohol. Each of these is considered a "standard drink."
So-called "alcohol-free" beers and wines may actually contain some alcohol. It is important to check the label for alcohol content.
